The Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Berne, at the request of the Institute of Art History, conferes an honorary doctorate, Doctor philosophiae honoris causa, on artist and blues musician George J. Steinmann.

He is the 5th artist since 1947, after Hermann Hesse (1947), Alberto Giacometti (1965), Gottfried Tritten (1986) and Ilja Kabakov (2000) to be honored with this outstanding award.

The presentation of the documents will take place at the annual Dies academicus on December 3, 2011, 10 a.m. at the Culture-Casino in Berne.
